Home of the Lions

¡Hola! My name is Janet Ferreira, I am from Perú and I will be teaching your child Spanish this year! I am so excited to teach Español and I know that your child will have a lot of fun and be exposed to the Spanish language through hands-on, interactive, communicative activities and rewarding experience in Spanish class. I have double major in Spanish/Psychology at Kean University. I currently hold a Standard Certificate in Spanish with endorsement in Special Education Certification. Also, I have earned 30 credits towards a Master Degree in Spanish Language and Culture in Salamanca University in Salamanca, Spain. I am very passionate about the Spanish language and culture and cannot wait to inspire my students to encourage a love for the life-long learning of Spanish.

I will meet with each class in grades 1 through 5 once a week for 45 minutes. During this beginning stage of language learning, we are focusing on verbal communication and comprehension in the target language.

My class will be conducted in Spanish. Throughout the course of the year, each unit taught will be based on a piece of literature and will provide several opportunities for the children to explore the language and culture.

The other Spanish teachers and I will use motion, repetition, and music to help students make connections with the general education curricula in many areas stressing literacy, numeracy, science and social studies.  You can encourage your child to practice the new words or phrases by asking them to teach you what they have learned.  Please understand that your child is acquiring a new language in a natural way and they will need time to internalize the language similar to the way they learned their first language.

I am looking forward to working with your child this upcoming school year. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question or would like to know more about the curriculum or expectations. My email address is janet.ferreira@edison.k12.nj.us.

Thank you for your support!
