Grade Level News

self contained autism
December 2019

Happy December! We are so proud of our students who have begun integrating so far this school year. This month our students will begin with more integration and reverse integration opportunities. Beginning in early December our self-contained students will be going to a first grade classroom every Friday to socialize, create crafts, participate in buddy reading and much more.

Our students are continuing to work on a variety of reading, writing, math and social skills at school. Here are some tips to generalize academic skills at home:

Reading- Give your child a choice of what book to read either together or independently. The public library is a great place to encourage reading skills. In school we have been going to the library and taking out books that we read in the classroom and return to the library.

Writing- During the Holidays have your child involved in writing and creating Holiday cards! Have them write messages, their name and have them color a picture on the front!

Math- We have been learning about coins and money in the classroom. Having your child involved in paying for an item at a store creates a meaningful experience to understand the concept of money. You can also review what the coins are called and how much each coin is worth.

Dates to remember:

December 23rd: Early Dismissal

December 24th – January 1st: Winter Break

Students will return to school on Thursday January 2nd

Happy Holidays!
